Charity begins at home for Chartway Group

Leading Kent construction company, Chartway Group, will support two charities, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust and Homeless Care, which runs the Maidstone Day Centre, as part of its annual support of good causes within the county.

A number of charitable events and fun days will be held across the year to raise funds for both charities, kicking off in March with a dress-down Friday. Chartway Group, which currently employs some 165 people, will also offer staff the opportunity to take two paid days to leave per year to volunteer their time in support of one of the company’s chosen charities.

The Maidstone Day Centre, which was established over 30 years ago, provides high-quality day centre support services to homeless people as well as running a small residential property and offering a substantial food bank for those in need in the area.

Chartway Group hopes to raise a minimum of £7,500 for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust, which will enable it to undertake three, potentially lifesaving missions, responding to patients who have suffered trauma or serious medical emergencies.

The charities were selected after staff were asked to put forward good causes close to their heart. Previously, Chartway Group supported the Heart of Kent Hospice. During that time, the company donated a mini-bus, supplied labour and materials to revamp the Magnolia Place Garden at the Heart of Kent Hospice as well as donating funds raised at events including the Hearty Breakfast and cakes bakes.

Ian Savage, Group Managing Director at Chartway Group, said: “Allowing and supporting all our staff to do something positive for the communities in which they live and work is central to the way we operate at the Chartway Group. I’m delighted that the company is in a position to offer our staff paid leave to fulfil charitable endeavours, as well as time to participate in fundraising events. Everybody benefits, and I am particularly pleased that we alighted on two such great Kent charities to support.”

Angela Clay from Homeless Care commented: “Everyone is delighted to be chosen as one of Chartway Group’s charities of the year, so a huge thank you to all the staff who voted for us. A special thank you to Managing Director Ian Savage for his generosity in promising staff time off to volunteer at Maidstone Day Centre and to take part in fundraising events. Like Chartway Group, Homeless Care is very much part of the community, and we look forward to working together to make a difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in our society.”

Julie Clare, Head of Corporate Relations at Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of Chartway Group’s chosen charities. This partnership will raise vital funds for our charity, enabling us to continue being there for the people who need us. Employees will also be able to raise awareness of our charity amongst their friends, family and the wider community, which is also so important to us.”
