Chartway Apprentices Success

Chartway Group’s latest apprenticeship success sees two Trainee Site Managers, Callum Driver and Luke Edwards, complete their BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Level 3 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations.

Callum, who worked as a site labourer for Chartway, and Luke, who was previously a Chef, began their Apprenticeships two years ago, attending Mid-Kent College on a day-release basis combined with on-site practice- based learning. The training was funded by CITB, the Training Industry Board for the construction industry and Chartway Group.

Chartway Group, based in Coxheath, now employs around 200 staff and has seen exponential growth since its launch ten years ago. Chartway provides construction services to a number of high-profile Housing Associations across Kent and its residential development brand Westerhill Homes.

Ian Savage, CEO, Chartway Group, says ‘We are keen to encourage young people into the construction industry in a variety of roles, both office and site-based. These employees are the lifeblood and future talent of the industry and Chartway Group; we are immensely proud of the achievement of both Callum and Luke and look forward to supporting them in the next steps in their development with their HNC’s.’

Both Callum and Luke will now go on to further their knowledge studying for their HNC in Construction Management, which will be over the next few years.

Both are keen to further their careers in the construction industry and reach their long-term goals of becoming fully fledged Site Managers with Chartway Group.

Callum says’ I loved learning about various aspects of construction at college and then using this on site, and vis-versa. The team support was really helpful as I could mix and match what I was learning in the classroom to all the areas I’m involved with on site on a day to day basis.

Part of the apprenticeship involved working on a number of different sites to gain well-rounded experience. ‘Being able to work locally, and for a local company where you are valued, was one of the things which drew me to working for Chartway Group. Their support has been fantastic. Says Luke Edwards.
