Andrew Shankster is Managing Director of Chartway Construction and Westerhill Homes and has almost 30 years’ experience in housing development. He started in the industry as a trainee surveyor, moving into management at Prowting Homes and then at David Wilson Homes where he was commercial director in the South Midlands.
He moved upward through management before becoming commercial director and then regional operations director for Bovis Homes, South East. In 2013, He moved to Persimmon Homes, South East before becoming managing director later that year. He joined Chartway Group in 2015, adding his considerable development experience to the operation as it seeks to capitalise on its growth and success.
Tim joined Chartway in the spring of 2012 as Group Projects Director. He is responsible for all client liaison on our new build construction projects as well as taking a key role in business development working with housing associations and local authority clients.
Tim has over 17 years’ experience in the housing and construction sectors, with a track record of success in delivering high quality new-build residential and commercial projects.
He also has experience working in affordable homes, having worked at a senior level for Hyde Group Ltd. There, he was responsible for the strategic management and delivery of affordable homes and private sale for Hyde Group’s eastern region.
Derek joined Chartway Group as Construction Director in April 2017 bringing with him a wealth of experience obtained from 30 years working within the construction industry. He started his career on the George Wimpey management programme as a site engineer and then switched to specialise in site management. He has worked predominantly in the South East of England for various private developers including Wimpey Homes Southern, Laing Homes and Barratt London.
Prior to working for Chartway Group Derek spent 16 years with the Galliford Try subsidiary, Linden Homes. Initially employed as their Regional Build Manager and after 4 years promoted to Associate Construction Director. Derek's expertise has enabled many of the sites under his supervision to have won or been nominated for highly acclaimed awards.
Mark joined Chartway Group in 2015 as a senior land manager. He is responsible for working across the Chartway Group portfolio, sourcing land development opportunities in Kent and the South East, in particular, for Westerhill Homes, the residential private sales brand of Chartway Group.
Mark has a demonstrable history of buying sites, with over 30 years’ experience in the housing development industry. As Senior Land Manager for Chartway Group, he cultivates productive relationships with land agents, property developers and land owners to ensure he is at the forefront of development prospects.
Previous to joining the Chartway Group, Mark worked for a range of house builders including Barratt Homes, Antler Homes and Westbury Homes. He started his career in the sales department of Galliford Homes, before moving on to work in land acquisition. This was followed by a spell working for Kent land agent RPC Land & New Homes where he was responsible for selling sites for residential development in Kent and South-East London.
Katherine is a highly experienced town planner with considerable urban design and master planning expertise gained in both the public and private sector.
A passionate advocate of good design and place-making Katherine also has extensive experience as a regeneration and building conservation specialist. She has worked in the South-East region for over 30 years, including the private sector for a number of well-known private house builders since early 2012, providing pre-purchase advice, planning appraisals, as well as project managing and submitting a range of planning applications on behalf of the business and its clients.
At Chartway Group, Katherine is responsible for advising on planning for potential housing sites, including undertaking stakeholder and community liaison to successfully securing planning permission. She also deals with any matters relating to planning throughout the whole construction period.
Jon joined Chartway Group in November 2018 having previously worked for Berkeley and Bellway.
With over 30 years’ experience, Jon brings a multitude of skills to the business. Jon is a team player and a dedicated and professional design manager.
Conor has over 40 years of buying experience in contracting, design and build, and latterly, in house building.
He started his career in 1975 as a trainee buyer in Bedfordshire, before moving to Kent to take on more senior positions with house builders including Redrow Homes, Berkeley Group, Bellway Homes and, more recently, Persimmon Homes as buying manager.
He joined Chartway Group in April 2017 as Buying Manager and, working as part of a team, is responsible for running a smooth buying operation, starting at pre-construction, right the way through the construction period, ensuring commercially astute practice is adhered to along the way.
Simon joined Chartway Group in 2017. He has over 32 years’ experience in the construction industry, starting his career as a quantity surveying apprentice with Croudace Homes, a privately owned house builder in the South East. He went on to work in the civil engineering sector, working on overseas projects, developing high rise hotel and department stores.
Over the last 17 years he has held a number of senior commercial positions with several national housebuilders, in addition to working for privately owned, niche developers.
Alex Joined Chartway Group in June 2017. Previously working for a number of major PLC house builders: Persimmon Homes, Taylor Wimpey & Laing Homes, he joined Chartway Construction from Bellway Homes
Starting as a trainee back in 2004 Alex has gained first- hand experience in a number of roles, including Surveying, up to his current role as Head of Commercial.
Alex heads up the Commercial Team and is responsible for the appointment and management of all sub-contractors and their budgets, and construction budget reporting for all Chartway Construction & Westerhill developments.
With a career spanning over 20 years in Highways, Infrastructure Engineering, Commercial and Residential Development, Jamie has had great fortune in gaining a very wide range of experience in these disciplines of engineering and construction. This has been achieved through having practical hands on experience in the early years of his career and being able to carry this knowledge, along with other accrued skills, through to more senior engineering and management roles. This has enabled him to demonstrate a unique set of skills in problem solving, construction, engineering, design and project management.
His role with Chartway Group is managing a design team of external Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineers and Services Coordinators, working on a variety of housing developments. This role is integral to the land viability and pre-construction stages, leading and directing the civil and structural engineering design and taking a development all the way through to final adoption with the relevant authorities.
Jamie has managed to develop a very strong grounding in these disciplines of engineering and construction, having experienced roles with the local highway authority, engineering contractors, design consultancies and housing developers.
Tom has over 15 years’ management experience working with top tier PLC housebuilders. His management career began with Bovis Homes, before he progressed to lead Customer Service departments at both Persimmon and Linden Homes.
As Quality Assurance & Customer Services Director for Chartway, Tom is responsible for auditing and driving the quality of Chartway’s ongoing construction projects and ensuring that the business provides market-leading customer service to all stakeholders.
Tom is a Chartered Manager with the Chartered Institute of Management and a Companion Member of the Institute of Customer Service.
